Ewilan's Quest breaks all records: #1 on the Okoo platform

The best-selling franchise, with over 2.5 million copies sold, delivers an exceptional launch, confirming its status as a cult series.

Ewilan's Quest — Season 1 Audience

Since February 14 on Okoo, over 350,000 viewers have tuned in to binge-watch all eight episodes of Season 1 of Ewilan's Quest. A historic launch for France Télévisions, fulfilling the expectations of an entire generation of readers and fans of Pierre Bottero’s work.

An unprecedented European launch

Aimed at children and families, the animated epic Ewilan's Quest began in 2018, when Sophie SAGET, President and Producer at Andarta Pictures, acquired the adaptation rights from French publisher Rageot. Pierre Bottero’s universe, often described as the “French Harry Potter,” immediately captivated her: a world rich in characters, action, and poetry, rooted in the tradition of fantasy storytelling.

“I wanted to offer an ambitious and demanding series, allowing children to experience great adventures through powerful coming-of-age stories.”

— Sophie SAGET, President & Producer, Andarta Pictures

After eight years of production and the collaboration of over 200 artists, the series makes its European debut on France.tv, Okoo (France), RTBF (Belgium), RTS (Switzerland), and in April on RAI Kids (Italy). Other international territories, including Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom, are currently under negotiation.

For the first time in Europe, the series benefits from a coordinated broadcasting strategy: RTS, RTBF, and France Télévisions aligned their schedules to broadcast the series simultaneously. A major turning point for independent animation!

“With cliffhangers at the end of every episode, it was essential that viewers discover the series at the same time, to preserve the element of surprise and strengthen the collective experience. We wanted to create a true community event, particularly through a dedicated digital campaign.”

— Bruna PEGORARO

Developed in close collaboration with France Télévisions, RTS, and RTBF, the campaign was also built with the franchise’s long-standing partners, bringing all audiences together around the series through the creation of exclusive content.

In less than a month, this campaign generated over 4 million views. On Instagram, the community organizes watch parties and analyzes each episode, demonstrating particularly strong engagement.

A transmedia universe in full expansion

To accompany the broadcast, eight novels adapted from the series and published by Rageot have just been released in France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Canada. Targeting young readers, these titles enrich a catalog that already includes 12 novels and 20 graphic novels.

In parallel, Andarta Pictures has launched an official store, offering an exclusive range of merchandise, including collectibles, textiles, accessories, and music editions.

“Ewilan's Quest offers us an extremely rich universe. By developing publishing, music, and merchandise, we are laying the foundations for a true 360° franchise, capable of engaging its audiences over the long term.”

— Maëva BREUGNOT

Festival presence and fan engagement

To continue connecting with its audience, Ewilan's Quest will be featured at two major events: the Anima Festival in Brussels (Belgium) with a directors’ conference, and Séries Mania in Lille (France). In addition to four special screenings, the series will join the festival’s iconic “bus tour,” a traveling showcase that will traverse France for a month, allowing audiences to discover cult works.

“The next steps involve developing a second season and preparing a spin-off. Spoiler: the story will focus on one of the saga’s most beloved characters… Ewilan's Quest is above all a human adventure, driven by immense respect for the original work. The audience’s enthusiasm and the fans’ attachment give us the momentum needed to write the next chapter.”
