A captivating adventure in the heart of Algiers in 1955
Petite Casbah takes us to the heart of Algiers in 1955, long before the war of independence erupted and transformed the city.

After months of hard work and fruitful collaboration, the team at Enclume Animation, alongside production companies Darjeeling, Lunanime, and Panique!, is proud to announce the completion of the animated series Petite Casbah. This project, soon available on OKOO and France 4, promises to offer audiences an unprecedented dive into 1950s Algiers, a pivotal era marked by the looming shadow of the war of independence.
An immersion in 1955 Algiers
The plot follows the adventures of five young heroes: Lyes, Ahmed, Philippe, Khadidja, and her older brother Malek. These children, aged 10 to 12, already live lives full of challenges and discoveries despite their young age. Their daily routine is upended the day Malek, Khadidja’s sole support, is arrested after an altercation with police at the market.
Lyes, a resourceful street kid, witnesses the scene and decides to take the young girl in. With the help of Ahmed and Philippe, they embark on a quest to help Khadidja overcome this ordeal. Together, they navigate the winding and mysterious alleyways of the Casbah, guided by a mysterious black notebook found among Malek’s belongings. This adventure, where friendship and courage are at the heart of the story, reveals an Algiers in full turmoil, capturing the spirit of a complex and fascinating era.
A collective creation
The Petite Casbah series is the fruit of an exceptional collaboration between talents from diverse backgrounds. Direction was entrusted to Antoine Colomb, while the original creation was conceived by Alice Zeniter and Alice Carré. These two creators, along with Marie de Banville and Jean Regnaud, also handled the screenwriting, ensuring a story rich in emotion and authenticity.
The graphic design, created by Elodie Remy, adds a unique visual dimension to the work, immersing viewers in the distinctive atmosphere of 1950s Algiers. The result is an animated series that promises to captivate young and old alike with its visual beauty and the depth of its narrative.
