On February 14th, Ewilan’s Quest made a remarkable debut on Okoo, France Télévisions’ youth‑focused streaming platform, achieving nearly 350,000 video views in just five days. This marks a historic milestone for the broadcaster and a long‑awaited moment for fans of Pierre Bottero’s beloved literary saga.
A Landmark European Launch
Targeting kids and families, Ewilan’s Quest began its animated journey in 2018, when Sophie SAGET, CEO and Producer at Andarta Pictures, acquired the adaptation rights from French publisher Rageot. Pierre Bottero’s universe, often described as the ‘French Harry Potter’, captivated her with its rich world‑building, endearing characters, and unique blend of action, poetry, and fantasy.
Sophie SAGET explain : “My ambition was to provide high‑quality content for children and help them live out adventures through powerful coming‑of‑age stories."

Following eight years of dedicated craftsmanship and the work of more than 200 artists, the series is now debuting across Europe on Okoo (France), RTBF (Belgium), RTS (Switzerland), and in April on RAI Kids (Italy). Further international territories, including Canada, Germany, and the UK, are in active negotiations and will be announced soon.
For the first time in Europe, the release benefits from a fully coordinated strategy: RTS, RTBF, and France Télévisions have aligned their programming and marketing efforts to air the series simultaneously, a milestone for a French animated production.
“With each episode ending on a major cliffhanger, it was essential that audiences experience the story together, on the same day, without the risk of spoilers,” says Bruna PEGORARO, Head of Development at Andarta. “Ewilan’s Quest has been awaited for many years, so our ambition was to create strong momentum through a fully tailored social‑media campaign”
Developed closely with France Télévisions, RTS and RTBF, the campaign also brought together key publishing and audio partners from the Ewilan universe to create new content and celebrate the launch.
This campaign has generated over 4 million views in less than a month. On Instagram, the community is hosting watch parties, creating memes, and eagerly asking for more. Early reactions include:
- “The series came out yesterday, and I’ve already watched it twice, all the way through.
- "The art direction, the music, the sound design, the characters, the animation, everything is so good! I’ve fallen in love with the universe. I recommend it so strongly!”
- “A wonderful adaptation of the books from my childhood. They took a lot of liberties… and that’s a good thing. It feels like rediscovering Gwendalavir. Thank you for this ✨ gift ✨.”
- “If you were a fan of these books, I highly recommend watching the series! The animation is sublime ! You can feel all the poetry of Pierre Bottero.”
- “What an emotion to finally discover this series! It took years and years of work from the @andartapictures team to bring this adaptation to the screen… and what a job ❤️ The visuals, the soundtrack, the writing… the series is faithful to the universe while offering a new journey through Gwendalavir 🔥 Whether you’ve read the original saga or not, go watch it!”
A Growing Transmedia Universe
Ewilan’s Quest is paving the way for a powerful transmedia universe.
To accompany the broadcast, eight novelised books adapted from the animated episodes, published by Rageot, are launching this week in France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Canada. Targeting readers aged 7+, these titles expand a catalogue that already includes 12 novels and 20 comics. In addition, Andarta Pictures has also launched an online e‑shop featuring an exclusive collection of collectable items, textiles, accessories, and a musical label.
Maëva BREUGNOT, Head of Licensing, notes: “We see Ewilan’s Quest as a universe with extraordinary potential. By expanding into publishing, collectables, and new creative collaborations, we’re laying the foundations of a true 360 franchise that can grow with its audience for years to come.“
Festival Presence and Fan Engagement
To deepen audience engagement, Ewilan’s Quest will be showcased at two prestigious festivals: Anima Festival in Brussels, Belgium, featuring a directors’ masterclass, and Series Mania in Lille, France, with four special screenings and inclusion in the festival’s iconic bus tour, a month‑long travelling activation that stops in multiple cities and invites audiences to experience series inside the bus.
"Next steps will involve a second season and the preparation of a spinoff, and spoiler alert: it shines a spotlight on one of the saga’s most beloved characters,” says Sophie SAGET. “Ewilan’s Quest is the result of extraordinary teamwork and a deep respect for Pierre Bottero’s masterpiece. We want audiences to dream with us, and their passion fuels our commitment to growing this universe for many years to come.”
